Over 330 years ago, Southern Shaolin monks and Ming Dynasty military officers created one of the most efficient martial science combat system (cold combat) in history, Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun. Until now, that system was taught only to revolutionary combat recruits in Secret Societies throughout Southern China. In 1999, Grand Master Garrett Gee, the inheritor of Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun elected to open the system to Public view and training. The Ving Tsun Museum's West Coast Branch (Meng's Martial Arts of Arizona) was the site for the historic first-ever public workshop on Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kung Fu in April 2000 to get things started. Due to popular demand, a second public workshop was conducted at the Ving Tsun Museum in the fall of 2000. March 2001 marked the passing of another milestone in the history of Hung Fa Yi with the Grand Opening of the first public Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kwoon in the art's 330 year history. Grand Master Garrett Gee opened the Hung Fa Yi Headquarters Kwoon in San Francisco with prominent members of the Bay Area Martial Arts community, Ving Tsun Museum staff East and West present for the ceremonies. Attendant with this Grand Opening, Grand Master Gee has authorized other locations to teach Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun as well. ![]() Beautiful frontage of the Hung Fa Kwoon Headquarters ![]() Grand Opening ceremony and Head Master paying respects to Kwan Gung ![]() Grand Opening group photo. ![]() Painting of Dama (Bodhidharma) ![]() Inside the Headquaters, looking towards the entrance. ![]() Head table at Grand Master Gee's Birthday Celebration ![]() Second table ![]() Third table ![]() Training in the park return to top Today | Museum Information | Galleries | Reference Library | Community | Gift Shop ©Ving Tsun Museum 1997-2008 All Rights Reserved. last updated : October 13, 2006 at 5:42pm EST |
