South Shaolin Temple to be ReconstructedFuzhou - The South Shaolin temple will be reconstructed on its original site in southeast china's Fujian province. According to historical records, there are two Shaolin temples in china, one in central China's Henan province, and the other in Fuqing city in Fujian. The movie "Shaolin Temple," which triggered a craze for Shaolin boxing in the 1980s, is based on anecdotes about the martial-arts monks of the temple in Henan province. According to Qiu Yuqing, former mayor of Fuqing, the reconstruction of the south Shaolin temple will cost more than 30 million Yuan. Apart from government investment, a large portion of the funds needs to be collected from people who were born in Fuqing and now live overseas. The city government has invested three million Yuan in the project since the site was discovered in Shaolin village, Dongzhang township, in June of 1993, according to Qiu. A martial arts school will also be built after the temple is reconstructed, qiu said. return to top Today | Museum Information | Galleries | Reference Library | Community | Gift Shop ©Ving Tsun Museum 1997-2008 All Rights Reserved. last updated : October 13, 2006 at 5:41pm EST |
