1st International Congress of Shaolin Wing Chun
September 20thto 30th, 2014
Bogota, Colombia.

This was my second time in Bogota, Colombia. I was there in August 2013 to accompany and assist GM Benny Meng in seminars and private training with Sifu Johnatan Martinez, a student of GM Meng and the Colombian representative of Meng martial arts family. Bogota as a city, in some very different aspects from Brazil, not only in language (I must dedicate myself to study Spanish at this point ☺), or climate (it really pleases me very cold climate of Bogota), but also as regards the cultural aspects. On the other hand, as people of good Latin blood, Colombians are very receptive.

This time, I had the great pleasure of meeting again my kung fu brothers, Sifu Oscar Choco and Sifu Johnatan Martinez. Oscar visited Fortaleza in November 2012, during the year-end meeting with GM Meng at the SBA HQ – in 2015 will be my turn to give back by visiting him and his country, Ecuador. And also meeting that others until then known only virtually, as Mayra Garcia, Sifu Gonzalo Tinajero, student of Sifu Choco, and Maria Jose, and very especially I met for the first time my kung fu brother, Sifu Aaron McKillip. We had seven years together of conversation over the internet, exchanging ideas via email, facebook and Skype, always fighting for the same ideals and positions and what we believe is right and true. I really liked to see that I have many things in common with Sifu Aaron McKillip. Due to the short time that was more dedicated to training, we had not had much time to talk and know each other better, but other opportunities are already knocking on the door for 2015.

Speaking of training, as always GM Meng offered us his vast martial and philosophical knowledge. We had a great time training in advanced aspects of Shaolin Wing Chun, characterized by the Tiger Track (Luk Dim Bun Kuen Faat), even with a focus on the Chi Sau skills seeking the certification of the sifus McKillip, Choco,Martinez and Tinajero, we went to very transition between the 6 ½ Concepts as the fundamental base of the Tiger Track in Shaolin Wing Chun. I am always impressed with certainty, undeniable truth, methods, curriculum and system we call Shaolin Wing Chun is actually way ahead the mainstream Wing Chun. When I see this, I’m sure that all the effort I made and all, absolutely all, the decisions I made in the past, was worthy.

Another important moment for me was serving as master of ceremony for the Baai Si (Riteof Tea) for the discipleship of my brothers kung fu, Sifu Choco and Sifu Martinez. From planning to the moment of the ceremony, everything was done with harmony, dedication and spirit of kung fu family. I take this opportunity to welcome again the new disciples and say now is that, in fact, begins the journey in Kung Fu.

After GM Meng leaving Colombia, I still got a few days to train and share experiences with Sifu Johnatan Martinez, with which I have increasingly developed a great friendship and admiration. Workouts were good, I hope the little I have shared give him good results.

I conclude this note by thanking GM Meng for giving me the opportunity to once again accompany him in these important international meetings and conferences, I hope to accompany him on many others yet to come, it will only enrich the little knowledge I have managed to accumulate during these years. I thank the good times you could hear Sifu Aaron McKillip – his life is truly inspiring! And I thank Sifu Johnatan Martinez for everything he did for me in those days I was in Bogota. I was welcomed by Sifu Martinez lovely family, his father, his son and his students. I want to say thanks to Andres Guerrero for the help with English / Spanish translation and to Dayana Parade for all the times she was ready to help in whatever way necessary; I apologize for not mentioning everyone’s names here, but as I said in person, I already feel like part of the family and i will certainly be back in 2015 to review all. Meanwhile, good kung fu training for all!

Adriano Rodrigues

First of all, I want to thank God, because without His blessing I would be nothing and also He is making me strong to keep moving ever onward, to face the adversities of life.

I want to thank to my Sifu Marco Mourão for showing me my current martial way (a way in which I’ve waited for long time until to find it, and now I finally found it). Sometimes I wonder if all of this which is happening to me is really true. But anyway, I’m really happy! I always wanted the opportunity to learn Wing Chun someday, and this is a dream of my childhood becoming true. My Sifu Marco Mourão is a person who means a lot to me because he is an honest, educated and responsible man. I also want to thank him for always charging me respect, responsibility and commitment to the training from his school and also to our martial arts and to our Kung Fu family. Surely, all these values will still be quite useful to me in my life.

I also thank to the Grand Master Benny Meng. It was a great honor to meet you, and the opportunity I had to met you was unique and I’m feel proud to have you as my Si-Gung. You are a person admired by everybody and your Seminary was fantastic. I tried to prepare something good for you (a draw of you which was made by my sister). Also I am also very happy to got my first degree in Wing Chun’s system under your test. Thank you, Si-Gung Meng!

I want to thank to my Si-Bak Marcos Teixeira, because he arranged me a place to stay during the event period, in my trip to Fortaleza city. Also i’m grateful for him because he helped me in many other things as well. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I could see that you are an example of a warrior, a true Shaolin warrior who never gives up! Si-Bak, I really enjoyed meeting you, and I hope to see you again next year. Are you a person that I will always admire, and his family is beautiful.

I also thank to my Si-Hing Daniel Filho, for having set me in his humble abode and Martial Arts’ School, and to have adopted me as his son (hahahaha). It was very funny spending this time with all of you. Thank you for letting me use your equipment of training from your Training Center, because it were very useful! Si-Hing, you are a very gentle and persistent person about what you do … keep always such this person! About the mosquitoes…uh, never mind! But it was very funny! ahahaha. It was also a pleasure to meet the Wing Chun community from Fortaleza city. I’ve made many friends there! I also thank the guy who gave me his wooden nunchaku (a great souvenir). About Si-Hing Orlando…you are a very funny guy, I could laugh a lot, listening to your great jokes! hahaha
Finally, I emphasize that I am eternally grateful to all of you for contributing enough to my development as a man and as a practitioner of martial arts!

Greetings to all my family Kung Fu!
