Friendship Exchange is part of the Ving Tsun Museum's Mission Statement. Since
1995, we have been active in over 60 such events.
The idea of Friendship Exchanges is by no means exclusive to the Ving Tsun
Museum. Historically, the friendly exchange of training methods and sciences
existed as a part of martial arts culture for centuries. We look at Friendship
Exchanges as activities that promote a sense of community amongst martial artists
via an exchange of information, as well as hands-on practice between differing
schools, families, clans, styles, and systems. For example, when the VTM conducts
a workshop on one system with information shared and hands-on training, it is
not considered a Friendship Exchange. Friendship Exchanges, by definition, have
at least two speakers from at least two separate schools or systems. The ultimate
goal is to provide an increased sense of community amongst all serious martial
arts students by enhancing mutual understanding of one another's methods and
sciences. Hands-on interaction provides one of the best ways to accomplish this
goal.
The Ving Tsun Museum is not the only organization conducting Friendship Exchanges,
but we have shown strong leadership in promoting the open exchange of ideas
and experience. We have used this idea in the United States, Canada, Brazil,
Hong Kong, China, Korea, and Germany. We have hosted guest speakers from many
Wing Chun lineages including: numerous well-known instructors in the Ip Man
lineage, Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun, Chi Sim Weng Chun, Pan Nam Wing Chun, Chun Wah
Shun, Cheung Bo, Yuen Kay-San, Gu Lao, and Cho Ga just to name a few. We have
also hosted and formally engaged in exchanges with other systems outside Wing
Chun as well. There are too many Sifus, Masters, and Grand Masters to mention
but we would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to each
for sharing his/her knowledge, experience, and wisdom.
Below are the Friendship Events conducted by the Ving Tsun Museum, from our
Timeline.

Three more Sifus arrived to present information at the 2nd Annual
International VTM Workshop making this the first workshop ever to feature

This Frienship Workshop presented an overall approach on the VTM's Hung
Fa Yi curriculum with an emphasis on Levels 1 & 3 using the Saam Mo Kiu
philosophy of Wandering, Awareness and Focus. The majority of the Awareness
and Focused information was tied to lively application and free skill development.
During this weekend, Curator Benny Meng continued to work with Sifu Dac
Lam on the VTM Curriculum Instructional DVDs. Curator Meng also took the
opportunity to take some professional photos for upcoming book and DVD projects.
